I realize that I am powerless over someone else's emotions, alcoholism, addictions, etc. A part of me always wants to keep trying. My alcoholic friend knows how to push my buttons. I try not to enable, but today I stood my ground and said NO to buying him 3 beer, NO to buying him a small bottle of wine, I didn't yell or freak out, I just said NO! I am not going to be the one who buys you the drink that kills you. It felt good to say no without yelling and screaming. I feel sad that anyone is so addicted that they don't see what they are doing to themselves.

I Cathy....a mother Admit I am powerless over alcohol and my life has become unmanageable. I can't tell anyone why I continue to believe I can handle this disease and I cry inside for not helping myself. I write here though no one will see....I write it to myself. If someone does I am powerless to help my son.

hi, new here,do you want me to start one1 and talk next week.?
I am new on this page; I basically wanted to ask a question: Is there a step that tells you about surrendering to a service? If there is which is it please? I also want to be explained how is making coffee supposed to keep me sober? I have 4 years clean but I knew that doing a service is very important. My service is taking new members to a reunion when my base group doesnt have one.

Hi Vgalindo
This Board is not as active as the Main AA Board.
I suggest that you submit your question to that Board.
I don't understand these "steps". Are there different steps for ACA?

Hi John
This is my first visit to this site and I found reading your examples of powerlessness very helpful. I have been in recovery for 3 and a half years as a member of GA. Every day I'm reminded of my powerlessness over gambling and the destruction it has caused in my life. As a child I grew up with two parents both of whom were alcoholics. I had never thought of how powerless I was over my parents drinking and violence in my home. I am aware that I have grown up ..or tried to ...with some responses to life and daily events which are a direct result of my desire to control other people.
I did indeed become a care-taker and a risk taker often in a negative sense. I'd like to thank you for your thoughtful examples in the post.
