For me, it depends on my ability to live the previous steps to the best of my ability in all areas and situations in my daily life... Also, my Sponsor too saw to it that I applied the step that I had just completed for sometime before we moved on to the next step... For example, I must write down one instance from everyday where I admitted my powerlessness and unmanageability over a particular situation and how I felt after applying the first step in that way, and share it with my Sponsor every weekend, that way my Sponsor helped me ensure that I have working steps in my daily recovery before initiating me to the next step... I was told by my Sponsor that breezing through the writing part as a crash course doesn't help much... that it's not that one must complete all the 12 Steps, one by one, and then the program starts working in one's life... I was told that it was important to pick up the tool of every step before moving on to the next... Just my personal experiences...

This is my way to do the footwork of Recovery and stay Sober.
LEARN TO LISTEN! ALCOHOLICS LOVE TO TALK, BUT VERY RARELY LIKE TO LISTEN.
#1 Go to meetings
#2 Get a seasoned Sponsor and listen to him/her.
#3 Do the 12-Steps. Everyone of them in order with your Sponsor. Reading the Big Book and the Twelve by Twelve One Step at a Time. But going through them all in a timely fashion Sober.
#4 Service.
#5 Start Sponsoring someone yourself.
#6 Pray, Meditate, and Love God with all your HEART. Because he LOVED YOU FIRST.
#7 Read other literature like "Reflections," "24 hours a Day", "The Grapevine",
#8 Love yourself, give yourself a break, take a bath, light a candle, drink some tea, take up square dancing.
# 9 Go to Church. Don't fret it won't blow up, strike you at the door, call out sinner, if it does somethings real wrong with that Church. Go to another one that Loves Jesus and teaches His Bible.
Love To you all,
BLessed

I'm new here and don't understand a lot about the steps. How do I get the beginning steps and learn about them?

cdmiracles and everyone else,
I want to apologize if I come across to Churchie sometimes. Truly I Love God and I love his people. Worship is part of it!
It is never a prerequisite to go to any Church or affiliate yourself with one. I wanted to share my Experience, strength and hope. I get overboard sometimes with my own FAITH. I am Sorry if I have offended anyone. Please FORGIVE ME!
In each one of the Recovery books it asks us if we have a problem. That problem can be with alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex, food so on.
Only the person knows the addiction/ addictions right? If you want to go to A.A. read our literature, N.A. there's, so on. You can also follow a Christian based 12-Step program that covers them all. Some of our Churches have them going on inside now.
Please go to the meeting of your choice to answer the questions. Am I an ALcoholic by listening to other people in the rooms. I knew I was an alcoholic long before I even made it to the rooms of ALcoholics Anonymous.
Ask about the BIG BOOK ( ALcoholics Anonymous ) Inside the book it contains all the information you will need to give you an idea whether alcoholism is a problem in your life or not. Then you will need the 12 x 12 to work together with the BIG BOOK.
Each Step is to be done with your SPonsor not by yourself it doesn't work with out a Sponser, mentor someone that is familiar with the 12- Steps of REcovery.
I hope I was of help
Love to you all,
Blessed
