I am new on this board and want very much to learn how it works. I am unable to make meetings right now and need to start working my program and could really use some help.

Welcome mstrixe2, glad you're here with us. Keep coming back. A good way to start would be to explore the forums here at the Miracles In Progress website (there are separate forums for AA, NA, Alanon etc.) and start ineracting with other members who use these forums as a tool for their daily recovery.
Also, if you're not able to make face-to-face meetings right now, then you can always check out the online meetings here at the MIP chatrooms (you can find the link on the main webpage to the various fellowships forums and chatrooms here at MIP)
Another good idea would be to get hold of the 12 step literature and start reading these books on a daily basis. Doing so was an effective way for me to get more deeper into understanding and working the program.
All the best mstrixe2,
Fellowship Love,
Tahir.

Hello and welcome. How it works. Is the honesty, openminded and willingness. The first 3 steps. Keeping it simple. The only requirement for membership is the desire to stop drinking. Be grateful and give thanks daily. Stay in touch with the next suffering alcoholic. Keep in mind about the Unity, Service and Recovery. Blessed are those who continue to pray. Cheers have a blessed day.

New and Wanting to learn
Even being Old I still want to learn too! That slogan you can't teach an "OLD DOG NEW TRICKS" isn't true. I do not think that you are never to old to learn. That is WHY this program you see such a diversity of ages getting Sober.
When I came in I was 38, I am now 51. I felt at that time that all of A.A. was old timers or court appointed sign in's. I was a shakey, breaky mess. I too wanted to learn. I was so sick that I couldn't remember anything from one day to the next. True I had other problems to boot.
I went to meetings with my Sponsor the first year of Sobriety. I was afraid to go into a room alone! When i went to a room and sat down I would shake and sweat until the women in the rooms really thought I was either high or drunk.
I wasn't and it was horrible having people think that I was. The withdrawals were painful for me seizures, sweats, tremors, I should have been hospitalized had I known then what I know now.
No one asked me they just didn't. So if you are new and you are having severe sickness, withdrawals, seizures, cramps, different things that aren't normal for you see a physician. Don't blow it off or listen to just your SPonsor that isn't a Doctor. Listen to a Doctor that is aware of ALcoholism the disease.
This is a deadly disease. In it's ugliest form after it has progressed into the Monster it becomes. It wreaks havoc and destroys everything in it's path having no Mercy on anyone or anything. Never take it lightly if you think you have a drinking problem, or a problem with drugs. Go to a meeting and hook up with the "WINNERS."Listen, get a sponsor, she will tell you the rest.
Thanks for letting me share,
Blessed
