Hi everyone thanks for all the shares. Looks like Dot might be away so I will sometimes put up the topic. You can also do the same I assume - i.e. go on to the next step a week later if nobody has posted it . Remembering that the Alanon threads are separate from those about other 12 step fellowships . And that a 'Higher Power' needn't be a religious one necessarily . Will be back soon with a reading from Conference Approved Literature ( CAL ) .

Good Morning. It is a beautiful day here in Kentucky. I am so thankful to have received an e-mail reminder about step 7. It prompted me to make a post and "get with it." I have separated myself from the individual who brought me to this program and I am able to now focus on myself. What a humbling and learning experience. I have found that I am really good at finding my faults and then asking forgiveness for them. To really ask God to "remove" these defects and see them go away is still a little hard for me to grasp. I look forward to reading everyone's posts. Comments and suggestions are appreciated. Sincerely, Jim C

Hi Yes your email prompted me to look in too. Really useful reminder. Step 7 is a good one for me to look at at the moment. I'm working on Step 4 with my sponser, so looking through things to pin point short comings. I found a talk a while back useful. The speaker said whatever we are short on there'll be something else we can be long on. A good reminder to maybe accept that My Higher Power will help me work to turn my shortcomings into something more positive. I like to think more in terms of replacing rather than removing. It sounds less painful hehe Mon

Step Four is, "Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves." Step Five is, "Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our, wrongs." Step Six is, "Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character." Step Seven is, "Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings." Step Ten is, "Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it." In taking a personal inventory, we have to be absolutely honest with ourselves and with other people. Have I taken an honest inventory of myself?
Meditation for the Day
God is good. You can often tell whether or not a thing is of God. If it is of God, it must be good. Honesty, purity, unselfishness, and love are all good, unselfish helpfulness is good, and these things all lead to the abundant life. Leave in God's hands the present and the future, knowing only that He is good. The hand that veils the future is the hand of God. He can bring order out of chaos, good out of evil, and peace out of turmoil. We can believe that everything really good comes from God and that He shares His goodness with us.
Prayer of the Day
I pray that I may reach out for the good. I pray that I may try to choose the best in life.

Thank you Vicky for getting us started.
Asking our HP to remove our shortcomings is such a forgiving step. I realize how much awareness I gained in the 4th Step. As my Sponsor tells me, first we find awareness, then we have acceptance, then we take action. This is the action of "cleaning house" to remove those parts of our personality that aren't doing anything for the good.
" Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings "
