Hi all,

I would love to get your comments on divorce vs. legal separation.

My husband has not lived at home for the past 6-7 weeks.  I asked him to leave because of his abusive behavior that resulted from heavy drinking.  We've been married for 14 years with two children (6 & 9).

I am very much at peace with my decision that he not live here.  It's been a long time coming, and the results for my children and I are amazing.  Our home life is safe, predictable, peaceful and loving. 

I completely believe that if it's in my HP's plan for my husband and I to reconcile then it will happen.  Not on our time schedule, but His.  I've told my husband that I will not consider reconciliation until I see long term sobriety.  Whether or not he chooses sobriety is his choice.  I'm staying focused on my program and enjoying my days, one day at a time.  They're not all easy, but with faith, I have hope for a bright future.

My question is:  For those of you who have separated from your spouses long-term did you merely separate or did you divorce?  It may sound like a small point, but for me it's a really big decision.
