Hi..
First off I have had a slight stroke in the past week or so..and am learning though gradually that I need to use this program to remain centered and to stay vital...it is a scary propositon to go from 100% down to maybe 85% at the drop of a hat....I want this forum to be a place for people with strokes of any dimension to visit and comment on.... because (well obviously) this is a very new and unchartered territory for me and at the begining stages I am grapling in the dark..the paranoia and fear can be overwhelming,,,,
I am technically still employed and yet not employed since the stroke...I have burned all of my benefit time in hospital an afterward...it was going to burn out sooner or later..and my insurance is a major question for me right now,,,
So if this is YOU..please give some feedback and involvement....I will leave that as a starter.

There is very very limited traffic here, I recomend www.soberrecovery.com/forums as they have a very large and active community and some with stories similar to yours IIRC

HI Mycroftt
I have been in Alanon a long time know, but also use the program to deal with ME /Chronic fatigue syndrome. My personal ability has dropped considerably. I have had to give up work and yet can't get much benefit because ME/CFS isn't well recognised. They prefer not to accept that people have the condition.
The program is essential treatment for me.
I live One day at a time
Progress not perfection
Easy does it
First things first
How important is it
Keep it simple
Let go and Let God
It all applies to my condition.
In some ways I think it has made it easier to work the steps for me as opposed to trying to work them for my A husband if you know what I mean. I spent alot of time tells myself I was working the program just to find it was my husband in my head and not me.
Of course HE was powerless over alcohol and HIS life was totally unmanageable.
Easy way to learn what the program is about but theres no growth in it.
Applying the program to my own condtion took my focus off the alcoholic.
So instead of being continuously scared of ME/CFS and my overwhelming helplessness to do anything about it, it became my focus for personal growth.
I see its a long time since you posted this question. I've only just found it. I hope you are still here on the board. This is a wonderful resource. I've been coming here off and on for longer than I've been properly working the program and going to face to face meetings.
I hope you've found an active face to face group.
