When the student is ready the teacher appears said the Zen Buddhist or as is said in Al-Anon we get here right on time. There is no magic wand that can make anyone ready for Al-Anon and it is presumptuous to assume that I have a better idea of their true path than they do. Let me help them who want help and when my life improves as a result of working this program I do more to carry the message that I ever could by forcing it on others

I love how each Alanon Tradition continually reinforces the basic principles on which the program is built. Ala non is a Spiritual Program and does not advertise or promote our program to attract members -- We believe that members will be directed by HP to seek the help they need and will find the program by observing the principles in action that members practice.
I know this was true for me. I had tried many other forms of recovery and they did not address my deeply held negative belief system . People had suggested Al-Anon years before hand I scoffed at the idea that I needed help. When I entered the rooms of Al-Anon, I listened to the shares, read the steps, and experienced the feeling of compassion and warmth of the rooms I knew I had to stay and attempt to develop a spiritual awakening
which I felt emanating from each person in the room
Tradition 11 questions
What is it about the Al-Anon program that keeps me coming back?
How can my actions attract others to seek recovery?
When can I apply the principle of attraction rather than promotion in my personal life? How does tradition 11 help me to be mindful of my own behavior?
How can I practice traditional 11 in the workplace?

Al-anon keeps me coming back because it allows me, unequivocably, to be me exactly as I am at the time without fear or shame. Yet it always gives me a different way of looking at things, and because they are not forced upon me, I can take my time, "try them on" and pick and choose tools as they become available. In my own time and when I am willing and able.
By remaining non-judgemental and non-forceful and offering only my own experiences or simply my quiet support, I can help foster that very same environment for others. It's about helping create a warm and nurturing environment in which people can plant and grow their own gardens, not about marching into someone else-s skin and ripping out everything that looks like a weed to me and madly planting shrubs that I think look nice...lol.
I can apply this in pretty much all areas of my life where I interact with others- al-anon- with my mother who so often asks for my "advice"...writing this it occurs to me that I could apply this in all of my relationships really. I was always very much someone who would do as I described- rush in and try to take over as soon as I saw a way in...it's not helpful to anyone least of all myself.
Food for thought.

Thanks Betty - you rock and I can't wait! I'll share at the online meetings when you plan to restart and we shall see if we can get a bit more folks engaged. There does seem to be interest so we'll know more as it is revealed!
