In Step Eight we are given a new task to perform and specific direction for approaching the recovery work needed. Our specific assignment is to mke a list of persons we have harmed. The second part of Step Eight challenges us to become willing to make amends. Many a member has jumped to Step Nine without considering the power this Step offers. Obtaining a clear path through willingness gives us a fresh starting point for our continuing growth and recovery.

For me, the willingness was the hardest. I knew the people I had hurt - a lot of my list came when I did my fourth Step. When my sponsor looked at my list she suggested I add myself to it and put myself first. If I wasn't able to make ameds to myself how could I expect to make amends to anyone else?
For the willingness I had to go back to Steps 1 2 and 3. To admit I couldn't do the amends alone - that I had a Higher Power to help me - and that I was willing to trust that Higher Power to help ma say the right words at the right time and do the actions necessary.
