Step Ten - Continued to take personal inventory and we we were wrong promptly admitted it.

This Step must be taken with sincere self-honesty but also with great compassion. We are doing our best. We are human, and we will fall short of perfection. Instead of justifying our mistakes and creating new sources of guilt, we simply admit to ourselves that we were wrong as soon as we realize it, making amends whenever appropriate. It's as if we had cleaned up a badly corroded automobile. Now we are faced with the choice of maintaining it and responding immediately when we see signs of new corrosion, or ignoring the problem until it becomes as unbearable as it was before. Step Ten allow us to maintain ourselves in good working condition, free of unnecassary burdens.

From: How Courage to Change pg 236 (copyrigt 1992 , by Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. Limited use by express written permission of Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc.)
"I will probably make a mistake of some sort every day of my life. If I view this as a personal failing or pretend that no mistakes have occurred I make my life unmanageable. When I stop struggling to be perfect and admit when I am wrong I can let go of guilt and shame. That is a cause for rejoicing"

Yep, for me, I have to say "I think I screwed up today" or "I think I went overboard with that..." Then I tell myself I want back on track. I want to try again starting right now. Tomorrow, I will try NOT to do that.
Sometimes I continue on, and do not repeat the same pattern. Sometimes, I do accidentally slip, but I know the sun will set tonight and tomorrow's a new start.
