Beginning the 12 steps and finding a sponsor

I am new to the program and would like more information about how to find a sponsor and to begin the steps!  I have come to face that I am powerless over my own "stinky thoughts" when dealing with the past!  That is my weakness and I am going to work through to make a better me so that I may have power and control over myself.  So I can truly be Happy!  I am turning it over to my God as I see Him and allow Him to guide me through life.  All I have to do it step out of His Path for Me!
In saying that I am ready to begin my steps to make Me a better Me!
Could I get advice on the 12 steps and how to find a sponsor?
Does the sponsor have to be in my town or someone I find in a face-to-face meeting?  I have not been able to attend a face-to-face meeting yet but have learned so much in the online meetings and chats through Miracles in Progress!  It truly is a micacle to be able to focus on Today instead of Yesterday and I feel so much better already!

I am open to advice!!

Thank you
smile

hi jmb , welcome to the board . You could read some Conference Approved Literature about sponsorship , or contact a national helpline , or you could ask people in the programme if they are available to sponsor you . If not then just ask someone else and eventually you will find somebody . Myself I currently already have some sponsees so it would be nothing personal to you if I said no , for instance . Good luck with the search !

Greetings JMB, I suggest you try out Alanon face-to-face meetings in your locality. Make a few meetings and identify a support network of 4 to 5 Alanon members that you feel comfortable with, and overtime, I'm sure you'll be able to identify a Sponsor among those members. I'm sorry I'm saying all this as a "Do". This is what I did in my 12 Step fellowship and that is how it worked for me.

Face-to-face sponsors and the easy accessibility of a Sponsor in times of need is always advantageous. However, my current sponsor in another 12 step program I belong to is an online one, an eSponsor, and it works fine for me.

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone,
DID you miss me?
I have been gone for a couple months I think. I went to do some other work on a different WEB SIGHT. Very helpful.

Dear JMB,

Go to allot of meetings so you can find one.
Get one that knows about the ALanon program well.
Get a SPonsor that also understands the ALCOHOLIC.
Forgiveness is the KEY to life. I have found that if your SPONSOR IS BITTER PASS.
WHen looking for a SPONSOR, never get one that is the same SEX.
FInd one that you can relate too.
ONE that is close to your home. Not one that is out of town, too far.

This is my way of SPonsor hunting you can adjust, correct, or do whatever suits you. Your a grown up. However they do have resource material in each room usually to help you with Sponsorship.

Thanks,
