ACA 12 Steps Need To Be Covered More Thoroughly

I'm at Step 4, but the Step 4 & 5 Posting does very little if anything to encourage people to actually do the work nor does it give any guidance on how to work these steps effectively.  Those who have face to face groups to go to with actual sponsors are lucky, but there are some here for whom this is their only resource to sincere 12 Step Support, Study & Guidance.no

I believe the work rquired in step four is outlined in the Big Red Book of ACA and just like the fourth steps I have done in AA from the Big Book I found that it is as you have said to actually do just as it suggests. I have done the work and found the step has itseffect only in the actual doing of it rather than trying to figure it out. I am the type of person who wants to be perfect and now I realize that that is not possoible.I just do it to the best of my ability and leave the outcome to God as I understand him. Besides I can always do it again. And i know that aI will have to do it again for sure .Hope this helps someone.

Always read the book first and then go from there.  I hurt so many people that this step seemed overwhelming.  I really didn't know where to start.

What I did was google "character defects" (which also helped with steps 6 & 7.)  But these character defects also gave me a template for the fourth step.  An example would be jealously.  Who was I jealous of? Why was I jealous of them? How did my relationship with them change because of my jealously?

And all of a sudden my list took on a life of its own.

Best wishes,
Dave
