Hi Lori,

When you say new to this do you mean this board or to recovery in general?

If you are working the steps for the first time, this is another place to hear how others did it,along with meetings and help from your sponsor. It's a place to share experience, strength and hope.

If you are comfortable sharing part of your story, you can post a share on how you worked a step.

If you have any questions about a step, you could post it here and we'll try to find some answers.

Hope that helps...

Love, cheri

hey cheri

I am new to it all, both board and recovery.  I am a person who likes to be in control of things and all of a sudden I don't anymore.  I went to a therapist who put me on Zoloft and told me al anon would help.  I am sorry you didnt need my life story.  How do I start the steps? Is there like a lesson to follow or what?

Thanks for responding!

Hi Lori,

Nope...don't need your life story unless you want to share it. If someone's drinking is effecting your life than Al-anon can help you.

I am an alcoholic and have been sober for 4 years. The 12 step program is a blueprint for living. The 1st step in recovery is admitting we are powerless over (here you fill in...for me it is alcohol) and that our lives are unmanagable.

I know that Al-anon has various readings for each step, but I don't know what they are. Dot has posted the step one reading for Al-anon on this board, and I hear that the Al-anon chat room is pretty active. Plus, I'm sure that one of the Al-anon's will read this post and let you know what to do next.(subtle hint)

I would suggest also that you find some meetings in your area and attend them. Face to face meetings are so important in recovery.

Hope this helps....

Love, cheri
