Have you asked someone to sponsor you? That is a good place to start, recovery is a process that needs a guide since what we are changing is ourselves, we are not the best ones to be objective about our subject matter

What program are you inteerested in?

AA, Al-anon and other 12 step program usually have phone numbers to call and internet schedules of local meetings, the best way to be introduced to a 12 step program is by attending it's meetings

I just found this site. I am suffering very much. Someone abused our little great granddaughter. I am a children's therapist. I am starting my first step and need direction.

Why is my name on my post? I thought this was anonymous.

You have your real name as your "signature" which is what appears under each post

click your name in the upper right hand above the forum, and on the left will be the option to change your sig, oops might be a good sig smile

Hi
A good place I found to start until I found a sponsor was to use the literature.
I looked in the index for all entries for step one.
Then I got a journal and began writing how each entry applied to me.
I began my journey in January Month 1 step 1, month 2 step 2 etc.
Spending that time researching really helped me in those early days. If my worries and fears were written in books it meant to me that I wasn't going mad after all.

I quickly found I ran out of steam and motivation doing it on my own and although it was a good learning experience I missed out although the painful bits really. Working with a sponsor enabled me to keep my focus on me and to be able to bounce ideas off someone who knew the program well. She picked things out that I wouldn't have thought of on my own. Its always easy to see the plank in someone elses eye!!! She was well aware of the bits I could't see because she'd experienced the same issues working with her own sponsor.

the first thing you need to do is get a sponsor.  the sponsor is key to your recovery.  they will guide you at the appropiate time, and keep coming back.
