Step 7--AA

--Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.--

pp 76 Alcoholics Anonymous...When ready, we say something like this: "My Creator, I am now willing that you should have all of me, good and bad. I pray that you now remove from me every single defect of character which stands in the way of my usefulness to you and my fellows. Grant me strength, as I go out from here, to do your bidding. Amen." We have then completed step seven.

amen.

This doesn't mean that 30 seconds after we finish the prayer we will become perfect.  It is a process. But I have found that after cycling throught the Steps and arriving and doing this one,, and sincerely expectantly waiting for inspiration,, there is progress. If there is one particular thing that I have inventoried and really want to improve on,  I find that through this method,, and then  'doing my best while God does the rest',, the particular thing I want to improve myself on does improve. And if it is that I feel that I am at a stand still and restless to reach the next level,,  through this I do reach the next level (which is not always what I thought it would be, what I expected,,  but new territory). Many people say that it is hard for them to believe now,, that I was the way I was when I started recovery, tho there are ups and downs and I am still not perfect,,  I have made incredible progress. And I know others who are now leading much more constructive and fulfilling lives than before they started on the 12 Step recovry journey.

love in recovery,

amanda

all of me..the good and the bad...

God has taken my strengths and made them stronger and today uses my old defects and short comings as reaching and teaching tools when I am working with others...

He has brought both the good and the bad to a place of divine usefulness.  They inspire hope, lessen fears, diminish anxiety, and break through resistance.  They are the tools that He has blessed me with, for the benefit of others on this journey.

Thank you, John and Amanda, for your shares.

Step 7 is a daily step for me today. Each day brings new challenges and new lessons for me to learn. As I grow emotionally I find that my outlook on life is different than it was, and I have changed so much from the person I was when I first came in. I find that my value system has changed, and it is not so important to me what others think of me, but what I think of myself. I have some integrity and morals now. Each morning, when doing prayer and meditation, I ask for guidance in the words I speak, the actions I take on, and the thoughts that I think. I ask that I be given the wisdom to do what Creator would have me do. I will never be perfect, but I have an idea what perfection can be, and I strive towards that. I am like a baby just beginning to scoot along the floor, but someday I will be able to crawl, than walk, than run. When I stumble, a loving God is there to pick me up and help me get back on the path He has asked me to walk.

Love, cheri
