Step Seven - Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.

How do we humbly ask God to remove our shortcomings? As we learned in Step Three, there is no set way to communicate with our Higher Power. Some of us will read our list of imperfections over and over, asking our Higher Power to remove them. Some of us will find it helpful to pray and meditate on our relationship with God. Some of us get on our knees and ask God to remove our shortcomings. However we choose to ask, turning everything over can offer a wonderful release that enables us to continue our recovery confidently.

For me, step seven started in complete humility!  I was so desperate to keep my marraige in tact that i begged God to make me the wife that I was supposed to be.


Through further examination in Step 7, I learned that I can't just ask God to remove my defects without knowing what they are.  I am sure that God could remove the defects, but how am I supposed to know that the step is working if I don't know what he removed?  how am I supposed to know what to avoid to stop it from sneaking back in?


I also know that this is one of my most commonly used steps.  When ever I feel bad about something, I look deep and see if it is a character defect that put me in the situation, or is preventing me from getting out of the situation.  I pray not only for help identifying the "flaw", but also for forgiveness from those that my character defect has affected.
