I am powerless over not only the alcoholic, but people, places and things in general.

HI

When I can truly accept that I am powerless over people, places and things then I really do set myself free.  If I am powerless over others, then it stands true that they in turn are powerless over me.smile  If that is so  then it is my  job to take the actons to improve my life.

Love this step

"If I am powerless over others, then it stands true that they in turn are powerless over me." I never thought of it like that before. Thank you

Thinking about this step, I realize that I am powerless over anything except my own actions. At this time, I also feel powerless over my own thoughts and emotions. I need to ask HP to help me with that.

So very true.  We can then move to Step 2:"  WE   came to believe a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity"

What I like is that even when I'm most powerless over other people and notice the same repetitous things happening to me, I can say the Serenity Prayer until I can handle things.

Thank you Della

Great suggestion.  The Serenity Prayer is indeed powerful.

So I have given up trying to figure out where she is, who she is with, and what she is doing. In a way that feels better. But towards her (21 yr relationship) I feel numb and distant. I told her I think she needs AA to turn things around and of course she is not going. I'm grieving a huge loss. Lyne

Hi Lynn

I PMed you  I did see your post as a different posting  at the top of this Board and not part of this one.

Being powerless and having an unmanageable life is a painful place to be.

I had to quickly move quickly  to Step 2 and 3 in order to feel some sanity .

Be gentle with yourself

Why do I feel like I should be able to controll everything? But, I also know that I serve a God who is POWERFULL! Thanks for accepting me, and everyone have a blessed day!
