STEP 12 ALANON

12TH STEP

HAVING HAD A SPIRITUAL AWAKENING AS A RESULT OF THESE STEPS, WE TRIED TO CARRY THIS MESSAGE TO OTHERS AND TO PRACTICE THESE PRINCIPLES IN ALL OUR AFFARIS.

COURAGE TO CHANGE PAGE 166

SLOWLY AS I BEGAN TO RECOVER, I REALIZED WHAT A WONDERFUL GIFT THE AL ANON PROGRAM WAS.  IT GAVE ME AN UNDERSTANDING OF THIS DISEASE, THE TOOLS TO CHANGE, THE COURAGE TO USE THE TOOLS AND A PLACE TO TALK ABOUT MY SECRETS.  LIVING THE PRINCIPLES I LEARNED IN ALANON I COULD CARRY THE MESSAGE TO OTHERS BY EXAMPLE.

MY SHARE

the promise of a spiritual awakening was WHAT ENABLED me to begin this step process and i am so grateful for THIS.   I was so spiriutalLY unconscious prior to this PROCESS.   i must continue to practice these principles in all my affairs or i will go back to my unconscious state.  What are the principles of wich this stEP SPEAKS?  I believe these prinCiples are:  treat everyone with courtesy, R espect, trust hp to guide my life, focus on myself, meditate and pray DAILY.  stop all gossip and judgement of OTHERS.   i carry the message to others by living the program every moment of the day.  i do walk the walk and do not talk the talk.

The principles given me by this fantastic program gave me the courage to let go of my destructive actions and trust HP to guide me. Thanks to the God of my understanding and this program I will never again be so lost in a spiritual wasteland. I have the tools and the fellowship to walk with courage, serenity and dignity.

STEP 12 QUESTIONS

How does it feel when you treat yourself well and in a nurturing, loving manner?

Describe your experiences trying to share or explain your recovery to family members. Get feedback from someone else in recovery, someone you trust, about these experiences.

How have you grown spiritually since you began recovery? How would you describe your spiritual awakening?

Have you awakened to the beauty and joy of yourself?

Thank you hotrod for your work on the Step Board.

Some of my spiritual awakening was realizing that I had to take care of myself just as well as I would anyone else. Staying away from things or situations that could be harmful to me is one way I show that I have good self-esteem and like or love myself. That includes alcoholics in my life who I know would blast me with a lot negativity. Nurturing my own inner child by staying around positive people & places makes me feel like I deserve to be treated well.

Sharing is a positive experience. It took a while in Al-Anon before I learned to stop and think before I said anything. Also, trying to explain my recovery can be challenging because if I hint that someone I'm talking to has a problem and they don't think they do, then relationships can be damaged. My recovery helped me get over things that happened when someone in the family was drinking. The feedback I get is usually encouraging

My recovery depends on prayer and meditation more now than it used to. Just repeating the Serenity Prayer helps remind me that my HP is there and knows what's best for me. I've stopped many of my controlling behaviors. I'm able to accept people for who they are and appreciate their talents. My spiritual awakening was realizing that I do not have control over others and that my HP is in charge.

Hearing the phrase "Thank God for all of you" tells me that there is both good & bad in everyone. Thinking of people I have difficulties with teaches me that there is a lesson or purpose for everything in my life. Al-Anon taught me to stop feeling sorry for myself and to go out and learn or experience new things. I appreciate the natural beauty all around me and the beauty my HP brings to life.

Yours in recovery,

courage (Della)

Dear Della,

Thanks for your honest, insightful share.    Love how simply you state "I have good self essteem and love myself"

That was a true gift of this program for me.

Sharing the Journey with you and my MIP Family  is another gift of this programw
