7. Humbly asked God to remove our shortcomings.

First, as always, read "God" as "Higher Power" if you have issues with religion.

Next, this step links directly back to the first step, where we admitted our powerlessness over family dysfunction. We have to be ready for help from outside ourselves. And now we have to ask for that help.

Being ACoA means that we often think that we can do everything ourselves. We have to break ourselves of that posture in order to get the help we need. Hence the humility.

There is no sin in needing help and great reward in asking for it.
