Tradition 7 - Al Anon

I was told I could post a tradition 7 share since we are in the 7th month so here goes

Every group ought to be fully self-supporting,declining outside contributions.

I have two very different takes on this tradition.

First, how does it apply to me individually? I need to be responsible for each aspect of my life, my health, my spiritual well being, my emotional well being, my happiness. I need to make sure that each of my needs are met, relying only on me. There is a reading in Reaching For Personal Freedom that states we need to be dependent only on ourselves for each of these areas of our own lives.

The other way this tradition is applicable to me is in the meetings I attend. Each group needs to fully responsible for the group. This means as a member of that group, I need to chair a meeting, read at a meeting, offer to take a service position at that meeting and even share. I remember when I was new, I was so scared to share. Then someone told me that if no one shared, there would be no meeting. And so i began to share.

Have you found ways that you bring the 7th tradition into your own life?

  smile Oh yes, Audrey! aww

Yes. Betty taught me this about Step 7. Most groups a gold coin is enough to keep a group running. A bit more when we buy literature. And the surplus to help support the wider organisation. aww

I come from a backcountry place- and I say that we kept our finances in a pickle jar- and our minutes in a chocolate box.

At the very least we were above board. biggrin ...

But I learned that just rocking up and attending is a gift to Alanon. To ourselves and others. The rest is a bonus.

smile Thanks for your service here... aww ...
