Step 10 Al Anon

Step 10 - Continue to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.

I am so grateful to have many program friends. Most I know practice this step in the evening. I actually practice it in the morning. I am very much a morning person. I'm alert, clear headed and enjoy my mornings very much.

My practice is to think of the previous day.
What am I grateful for?
What might need some work?
What might need to be taken to my sponsor?
What might I be able to offer to others?
Do I need to look at a specific previous step?

These questions allow me to continually take my own inventory and if something needs to be corrected to work on a plan of correction.

If you have a step 10 practice, I'd love to hear about it.

In gratitude,
Audrey

  aww Thanks Audrey.

There were old people in our community- who seemed to have it all together.

I found out later that they all had there joys and sorrows like everyone else.

But they had found a way through- and I did want to be like them!

Getting into Alanon served this purpose. We all had similar experiences.

We could relate and learned to trust and to bond. I began to find some balance.

Gratitude came hard for me. I had a whole heap of stuff I was not grateful for!

But I know that these old people had a place to go to. In their hearts. Some had a faith,

and some seemed to have none. But they all seemed to go beyond that. A place that I needed.

Now, today I am that old person in my community.

Thanks for getting me there, Alanon. aww

Thanks so much, for your service to us, Audrey. smile ...

What a wonderful share David,

My first sponsor and I texted our gratitude daily. Some days I just had to make something up. When she and I ended our sponsor/sponsee relationship, I chose a new gratitude partner. When she left the program, I chose a new gratitude partner. Today, I love to surprise my Ala Family with "so what are you grateful for right this very minute?" Ah the joys of being in my Ala family :)

I was brought up in a faith and doing an examination of conscience was something we were encouraged to do.

In Al-anon I review my day before going to bed. Sometimes I can think I have had a really good day and then something comes back to me from earlier in the day that appears like a blemish in what was otherwise a lovely day.

Had I been really snappy when a colleague asked for help as I had enough of my own work related matters to deal with ?

Had a bit of office gossip been taking place and I had taken part ? Even if I didn't actually say anything was it a case of guilt by association ? Could I have walked away but instead stayed as I was taking some form of pleasure from it ?

These are things I have dealt with and on occasion I have gone into work the next and apologised to a colleague because of something I did the day before.

Mostly that person has no idea what I am apologising for but I set my own benchmarks and know when I have behaved in a way that wasn't nice.

I don't use it as a means to beat myself but instead to look for improvement in myself.

In the mornings I focus on my gratitude. Not always easy but before any negative thinking creeps in I do a mental list of all the many wonderful things I have in my life.

John

John,

Thank you so much for this wonderful share. I'm so glad you're here.

My "thinking" time is in the morning, where I look back at the previous day and take my inventory and see how I did. I love my morning meditation time.

Audrey
