Step 12 Al Anon

Step 12 - Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

I love this step. This step reminds me how important it is to be of service. One of the meetings I attend is HUGE, about 80 people daily. It takes courage to volunteer to read the steps, to chair the meeting and even to share. Yet by doing each of these things, I continue to be of service. It's scary to say yes to sponsoring someone in the program, yet when asked, I do say yes. I have been told many times that in order to keep what I've gotten, I must give it away and so I continue to give away what I've learned from others.

When this step speaks of practicing these principles in all of our affairs, I immediately think of my work life. My work life before Al Anon was me constantly overworking, constantly being upset when my ideas or suggestions were not implemented and me being angry a good percent of the time. By seeking balance, by turning my will and life over to the care of god as I understand him (step 3) and by taking a daily look at who I am (step 10) today, I am able to offer an idea and then detach and understand that there are many good ideas out there. I am able to say no when my plate is getting a bit too full.

I would love to hear your step 12 stories.

in gratitude

Audrey

Thank you Audrey for your service and this discussion of Step 12.

I too sometimes feel overwhelmed and have to take a step back sometimes.

What drives me when it concerns the gifts Al-Anon has given me is
the need to pay it forward.

Friendship and service, I feel, is the best way to share the gifts
of serenity and understanding that I have received from the
members of Al-Anon and MIP.
