Tradition 3 Al Anon

Tradition Three - The relatives of alcoholics, when gathered together for mutual aid, may call themselves an AlAnon Family Group, provided that, as a group, they have no other affiliation.  The only requirement for membership is that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.

What I love about this tradition is that it involves inclusiveness versus exclusiveness. I have spent a good part of my life feeling as if I were different, as if I didnt belong. This tradition indicates I belong based on only one criteria, that there be a problem of alcoholism in a relative or friend.

I also love that as I read about the tradition, the literature tells me that there are many other great causes, but that to remain inclusive we will leave all other affiliations and causes outside.

Does anyone else have anything to share on tradition three?

In gratitude,

Audrey
