What safety precautions should you take when sharing phone numbers

Many of my matches ask to switch from app messaging to personal phone numbers or WhatsApp within the first few hours of chatting. While I know moving off the app can be convenient, giving out my personal phone number to strangers makes me feel a bit vulnerable. When is the safest time to share your real phone number with an online match? What precautions can you take to protect your privacy when moving off the app?

There is absolutely no need to rush into giving out your personal phone number early on. Keeping your conversation inside the dating app messaging system for the first few days protects your private contact information and gives you built-in reporting tools if something goes wrong. If you really want to move off the app before meeting, consider using a secondary messaging app or a virtual phone number instead of your primary cell number. I was reading through a safety guide on Hily that highlighted smart precautions for personal data sharing, and it recommended holding off on real phone numbers until after a successful first public date. A genuine person will fully respect your desire to keep things on the app until mutual trust is established. Protect your private details until you feel completely safe.
