What Weather Data Turned Out to Be Unnecessary?

It's tempting to request every available field from an API, but I suspect most applications only use a small percentage of the data they receive. Looking back, were there endpoints or weather variables you initially thought were essential but eventually stopped using? What remained indispensable?

Over-fetching was a massive mistake on our first weather integration. We requested complete hourly breakdowns, solar radiation indexes, and dew point metrics, only to realize our users cared strictly about temperature, rain probability, and location. Trimming down those unused payload fields dropped our JSON parse time significantly. Precise location lookup remains the one non-negotiable component. Utilizing https://billing.meteoprog.com/geocoding-api keeps our location coordinates accurate without dragging in bloated datasets. Audit your network tab regularly to strip out parameters your UI never actually renders.
