Managing external displays and resolution scaling

I recently hooked up a new external monitor to my Mac, but the text looks blurry and the scaling settings feel completely off. I tried changing display profiles in the settings, but it didn't fix the fuzzy fonts. Is there a good discussion board where users talk about external hardware setups, resolution tricks, and display troubleshooting?
