Step 3 ...

hi guys my internet connection was cut off for a few days and now I'm a bit behind with things ! this week the topic is step 3 :

" Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him "

if you're not sure what to share there is lots of interesting stuff in the Conference Approved Literature ( it has a triangular logo ) . Dot said to keep to one paragraph of lit per post with a note to say what book and page it's from . If you find anything unacceptable on the board I think John and Amanda can moderate. We seem to be supporting each other OK last time I looked and I will be back for a read soon ,

thanks llol Vickyr x

From: Courage to Change - pg. 225 (copyright 1992 , by Al-Anon Family Group Headquarters, Inc. Limited use by express written permission of Al-Anon Family Group Heaquarters, Inc.)

" I am not a rocket scientist , a philosopher , or a wizard . Even if I were all three , I would still find myself looking off the edge of my understanding into a vast unknown. As I recognize my own limitations , I am more grateful than ever for a Higher Power who is free from such restrictions . "

I chose this quote today because it appealed to me . We have amongst us atheists who find it possible to practice the programme , even they can find a ' Higher Power' of some sort to lean on that will make them feel less alone and take some of the responsibility that they feel. We can always make up or seek our own with the programme guideline that it should be ' something loving and caring '

I always believed in a HP--I call him God.  So the first 3 steps have been a little foggy to me b/c I thought I was already there.  In a way I guess I was, but not fully!  I knew I was powerless over my A and the alcoholism. I knew there had to be something to restore me to sanity.  I believed there was an HP and I thought my life was turned over to Him.  I have figured out I didn't have my life in His care!  Maybe I thought that the everyday "stuff" was too little for Him to deal with, he had more important things to do--I don't know, but I sure did try to handle a lot of stuff on my own.  I still do, but I am trying to let go and let God!  I obviously can't care for my life well enough--I guess I should turn that job over to someone who is more qualified!
