how do I get started with this program?

Just signed up, I live up in the mountains and it will be easier for me to do this program online.  How do I get started and when does the group meet?

Hi Kiwikid - Welcome. On this board we do the Steps in order. You can go back to the other Steps and read the shares from others by searching previous pages.

There are also meetings in the chat room at 9am and 9pm ET. The rest of the time is open chat with others affected by alcoholism.

Love in recovery - Dot

thanks, I'm not an alcoholic but have other addictions (Re drugs, destructive behaviour patterns). Is this group still right for me? It seems that the steps are somewhat universal.

Thanks for the response!

Hi Kiwi - Yes the Steps are certainly universal. I'm Al-anon so I'm powerless over the alcoholic - and any other person place or thing - in my life. You will also meet alcoholics or addicts here who are powerless over whatever their addiction is. The rest of the Steps apply to all of us - the same- in our journey toward recovery. I've always gotten a lot of help from listening to what has worked for the alcoholic.

Welcome to the board - Dot

Dear Kiwikid1,

Hi my names Pam and I am a recovering Alcoholic. Dot gave you a good suggestion about reading the steps on here and going to the meetings.

But, It is so helpful to get to a face to face meeting. I can't live well without them lonliness is an alcoholics enemy. When we go to meetings there are womens phone numbers for women and mens phone numbers for men. That way you always have another person to call instead of picking up a drink.

Getting a Sponsor that can lead you through the Steps is the most important part of your Recovery. You can't do the Steps alone! It doesn't work. The 12 Steps are set up to do them with another person, not a family member, friend, or anyone outside of the program of A.A. or Al-anon or whatever program you are in.

Steps 123 are the first steps that are done with your Sponsor. If you are an alcoholic you will need a Big Book it's really the ( ALcoholics Anonymous Book ) a (Twelve Traditions 12 x 12) and literature like Daily Reflections, 24 hours, The Grapevine, Living Sober, to name a few. All these books have helped me in my Recovery of 14 years.

When you get the Big Book. Read the first 164 pages. Then you will definently know if you want what we have and that you will go to any length to get it.

I will lift you in my prayers.

Blessed
