hello in beijing!   I'm so glad to hear that there are 12 Step meetings there!

and welcome to this board.

I understand your situation. Boards like this can be especially helpful where there is not enough resources locally.

Please feel free to send me a private message, and I will be glad to see what we can do as far as sponsorship. I believe that people should get to know each other before making a commitment, so would like to just share and see what develops. I have been working the 12 Steps of AA, ACoA and alanon for 16 years now, and try to understand them as originally intended by the founders, as I continue to learn and grown on my recovery journey.

love in recovery,

amanda

RE: I need a sponser

Well, I've been sober for 5 and a half months. I started out going to AA meetings, but I guess I was impatient, and I couldn't grasp what they meant by all the talk of god. I also needed work, and though that AA meetings would clutter up my schedule.

I stopped attending. Nothing came along that really worried me, concerning my drinking. I was quite capable of declining, could see signs of temptation, and deal with them before they got out of hand.

The other day though, I was at a friends 19th birthday party. Beer everywhere. My hand wanted desperately to shoot forth, and grab one. It took almost everything I had to keep myself from doing it, and excuse myself for the evening.

I started to think after that, about just how in control I really am. This isn't the first time I've tried a serious long term effort at quitting, nor is it the first time i've lone wolfed it. The last time, that little voice in my head that kept telling me "one won't hurt you" ate me away until I caved. I learned from that, but it seems so has the liquor. He seems to have come back with a bit of a vengence. That little voice is growing to match my knowledge of it.

I can hold him back for a while, I can also avoid him. But I'm sure that eventually, without the help of a higher power, I will fumble, and liquor will have me again.

The problem I'm having is, I don't think I've found him yet.

I've started going back, as I believe from what I've seen of those who have recovered in AA looks very promising, but I'd like to find some guidance in finding my higher power. I think I've started to lean it's importance.

any suggestions would be appreciated.

lotus,,  your honesty is good,,  and you are doing Step one, and working on Step 2 - "coming to believe".  local meetings are very important, literature,,,,  and this site can be very helpful. There is an AA section here that is very supportive and I suggest you check their message board out,, and continue to come to this board. Take it a step at a time, a moment at a time.

love in recovery,

amanda
