TRADITON TEN ( 10)

The Alanon family Groups Have No Opinion on Outside Issues Hence our Name Ought Never Be Drawn into Public Controversy

At the Groups level this tradition states I can go to any meeting and know I will not be recruited for any particular cause and on a individual level this tradition allows me to establish a relationship with a person who under less supportive conditions I might be hard pressed to treat with civility

Today I can be more tolerant of other lives as I learn to take what I like and leave the rest.I do not have to let outside issues distract me from my primary Spiritual goal.

My Share

As I proceed through the traditions, the wisdom of alanon and the traditions keep revealing themselves. This tradition insists that I , as an alanon member and Alanon, as a Fellowship,"Mind My Own Business"  .The Business of Alanon groups and Members is the  learning how to use the tools presented by alanon to recover spiritually from the affects of living with the disease of alcoholism . We are cautioned to leave all the outside issues outside and bring ourselves to meetings. Here we will be able to connect with others who will be doing likewise.   Recovery from this dreadful disease requires completed adherence to the alanon philosophy Alanon and the fellowship are protected from the distortion of principles and ideas by this simple tradition.

 

 

Questions Tradition 10

  1. Do I breach this or any of its supporting Traditions in subtle, perhaps unconscious, ways?
  2. How can I manifest the spirit of this Tradition in my personal life outside Alanon

This step work is a good discipline for me. I tend to fudge  trads 10 and 11 together. I can deal with some issues here over trad 11 later.

It was often said we leave our differences at the door- we are free to pick them up as we leave.

Over time a lot of those differences I have left at the meeting.

I think it is good to be relaxed about this tradition. I am still able to keep my own thoughts and opinions

and to value them. But over time I learn to respect others at the same time...

neither gets in the way of our primary purpose.


Questions Tradition 10

  1. Do I breach this or any of its supporting Traditions in subtle, perhaps unconscious, ways?  In my home my thoughts and opinions were rarely heard, let alone respected. Beside that there was not a livley and open discussion- so that I could build and develop my own sense of purpose and identity. Inside of Alanon there is a pathway to healing... so long as I keep to alanon principles I can grow and to build my own confidence. Inside of Alanon I can get the sense of unity and of family that my life was so sadly lacking. I take this sense of family out into my world where is forms a part of my personality and character. People may not know where this comes from... but that is okay.
  2. How can I manifest the spirit of this Tradition in my personal life outside Alanon To be honest, outside of Alanon I am still outspoken. What is different for me is that I have learned to listen to others, and to respect other opinions. I am willing to grow emotionally and to build my knowledge. -DavidG.

Dear David Thank YOu for your honest insightful share.  The traditoins have truly helped me in my life outside of  the rooms

  My FOO , much like yours did not practice healthy forms of expression and so I was  lacking in the basic communication skills.  Using alanon principles and the traditions I learned  how to mind my own businesss. say what I needed and become  confident in group  situations.

Thank God for alanon
