Don't know where to start (kind of) :)

I thank you all who read this and those who reply too.  I am a new grateful member of al-anon and i have been to two f2f meetings.  I am loving the 12 step programme and feel it is the right programme for me.

The thing is I'm not sure how I am supposed to work it.  I totally get that the first 3 steps are where i need to be for now.  But I haven't got a sponsor (im from the uk and have 2 groups that i can get to.  I also know that my hp will show me who and when that sponsor should be in my life.  I also know that this cannot be rushed.

Just wanted to hear any of your expereinces when starting working the programme.

God bless and thanks :)

Dear Zimmy Welcome to Miracles in Progress

I am glad you found us and are attending alanon meetings.  You are correct recovery is in the Steps and working with a sponsor.  Until that time , while you are still looking, I would like to suggest what I did.

I love the slogans and was very really  grateful for them.   They worked wonders for me and heloed guide me thru my day.  Each Morning I would remind myself  t hat I was living one day at a time , I was going to only focus on my moods ,my anger, my fears, ,my pain.  I was going to treat everyone with courtesy and rspect andnot gossip or critize anyone  When tempted I would recite,:" Let Go and Let God" or the serenity prayer.   That was a tall order but it keept me focused on myself and my actions.

A t the end of the day i reviewd my day and how I had succeeded  I was gentle with myself and reminded myself that it ws "progress not Perfectioin that I was after.

Sharing at meetings and getting telephone numbers to calli n a crisis also was helpful

You have posted to s step board here at MIP  We have  a  Messge Board that is used more frequently and I suggest that you visit there  and share
