Adult Children of Alcoholics: Step 5

5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.

Growing up in my FOO it was all about the secrets.  Don't let people know your business, what you have, what you're doing.  But toxic secrets eroded self-confidence and made me distrust my own inner voice.  The time for hiding and secrets is now over.  Share the truth, because speaking it makes it real. But it also, thank the Higher Power, releases it.  It doesn't stay bottled up, eating away at you.  Do step four and step five.  You won't be sorry.

Hmmm... I am doing steps 4 and five at the moment with an ACA buddy. Step 4 is comprehensive and detailed... taking our time through this... looking at Step five- in a way doing both steps side by side. Head down, backside up I am not looking ahead so much. Not fearing the future...

I used to have global views on everything- this always happened to me, sort of thing. Things did happen to me, but i did not have to opportunity to talk about it. To Ventilate.

Now i have that opportunity. Sometimes I get overwhelmed with all the layers of junk! But If i pick at it and take one thing at a time i do see a pattern.

when I get to step five I am hoping, as Shakespeare said, to have everything in the nutshell.

Here's hoping.

Thanks James,

I like cleaning house within and letting go of the things I used to keep locked in tight. I have given up lots of shameful things of my past and am set free.
