Adult Children of Alcoholics: Step 11

11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understand God, praying only for knowledge of God's will for us and the power to carry it out.

This step is another one of those who have the word God in it which can trip people up.  Again, substitute Higher Power for God and change praying to asking.

The main focus here is changing your relationship with the rest of existence from an antagonistic one to a more wholistic if not symbiotic one while opening yourself to letting the Higher Power take care of those things that cannot be controlled by you.

These steps are true even if we are not in the program. At age 11 I began to desire to know if there was a God. I remember that the main reason was I was hoping there was someone outside of our family who knew me, saw me and loved me. Over the years, I have found that I do still want to keep HP at a distance; not too intimate. Through prayer and thinking about these truths my life and relationship to God is enhanced. Grateful to all in the program for their contributions. Thank you - Gail
