Step 10 for ACoA

10. Continued to take personal inventory and, when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.

In·san·it·y

1. Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result

-- Old joke

In computer programming, while in a logic loop, a way to exit the loop is through a break statement, where there is a change of condition that makes the loop stop.  Step 10 is our break statement, where we break out of the loop of damaging caused by our old behaviors by handling the present differently than the past, with new, adaptive behaviors.

We have a new tool, mindfulness, to be aware of what we're doing and stopping ourselves before we put ourselves back in the hole we just got out of.

It's wonderful we have a way out.  Let's take it.

I relate this straight back to step 3. I have to use these 2 steps together - and all the others can come in handy for this step too! I need to check myself and figure out what character defect has it's thumb squishing me down... then make it right. I grow the most when I'm able to throw myself under the buss for the greater good in the light of the spirit - busting up my ego and allowing the victim freedom. Sometimes that victim is me - sometimes others. If I see the situation honestly and speak honestly - there is release from living the life from the stand point of a victim and I become a responsible adult in today. Sometimes I need help to find the truth, but that is what prayer and support from my fellows is perfect for! Thanks James

This step is something I try to work on, promptly recognising when old habits  due to thinking are at play. For me I recognise I am ok when I share at a meeting honestly and openly free from the 'voice in my head that says no say nothing' that is an old habit.  Not participating in life my life and blaming others for my fear my pain and my frustration. I can see my part in things so much clearer now. Failure, useless ,no good are labels that do not apply - when they come to mind which they do I give them no power I can now more readily see them as old programming by sick people that I took to be the truth about me , it so is not the truth, I am a  wonderful human being , I need to remember that it feels like the truth today.
