Adult Children of Alcoholics Step 6

6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.

In order for the trapeze artist to get to the other trapeze, he must let go of the one he's holding onto. He cannot hang onto both.

So too must we be ready to let go of our behaviors that served us to a degree but limit us from going beyond where we already are and having the life we truly want. The action of Step 6 is to get yourself adjusted to the idea that you don't need your current trapeze bar and can reach out and grab the new one.

So are you ready?

Letting go was so scary, but nothing has made me feel less burdened than when I humbly let go and let God! Wow to no longer carry all the weight of anyone else and all the past history around on my shoulders. I am free to be me and people love me just the way I am quirks and all!

I am so ready to have God remove all of these defects of Character. I want nothing more than to be normal, happy, loving and loved. To feel accepted and feel true inner peace. I am ready to experience my zen and to stop judging myself and others so harshly. I dont want to be a people pleaser any more I want to love myself and put myself above everyone and everything else. I no longer want to put so much time and care into what others think and do and be unconcerned with this. I want to focus on my reactions to what others do rather than what they do. I no longer want to let others take advantage of me or mistreat me. I want to stop doubting myself and trust myself and my intuition. I want to let go and let god and trust him to lead me and guide me to whats right and what is meant to be. I want to be proud of myself and focus on positivity and the great things I have overcome and accomplished in this life, not the negativity that has happened to me or that I have done. I want to appreciate what I have and be grateful for it every day. I want to work towards my goal and my spiritual, emotional and physical health every single day.

Countrygirl, this is wonderful.   Part of the challenge of this step is knowing that there will be some things that you consider good things that you'll have to let go in order to change.  Dysfunctional behavior exists because it does try to fulfill a needed function, and so losing a dysfunctional behavior can make you feel adrift, because you don't have yet a new approach in its place.
