How do you start?

I've been reading some of these posts. I am not exactly new to Alanon. I've been in/out over the past four years but I've never taken on the steps and tried to interpret them and apply them. How do you start?

Attend meetings, get sponsor, read the literature and come here, read the step starting at Step 1 and share your thoughts .

When I first came into the rooms I was in deep denial-so I had to work a while on Step One. I started with the Serenity Prayer and the Just for Today pamphlet gave me things to DO, which I very much needed. I also made a commitment to read the detachment pamphlet daily and to practice letting go. Little by Little I made progress. I attended every meeting I could get to and I was fortunate to be able to attend 5xwk at noon and did so most days for the 1st 6 months.

I also read ODAT (C2C had not yet been written) and Survival to Recovery would later become a lifeline for me. I started to redefine concepts like "help" and learned the difference between a relationship and an attachment. I learned that enabling was in fact a form of harm to my as well as my qualifiers and made a commitment to cease that process.

Today my life is much improved and I have found peace and credit the program with literally saving my life.
