ALANON STEP 12 (12-4-2017)

Step 12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others and to practice these principles in all our affairs

C2C reading page:"with the help of the steps I need never be stuck again. A Chinese proverb states "be not afraid of growing slowly, be afraid only of standing still and page 355 Albert Schweitzer:"Example is not  the main thin  in influencing others, It is the only thing."

My share

Reading this Step at the start of my alnon journey, I  was  immediately  convinced to remain in Al-Anon and to o work the preceding  Steps.as e this Last Step  actually promised that if I showed up and used the steps I would  experience  a spiritual awakening. I knew that  this was something that I desperately needed and had not a clue how to achieves so  I decided to stay..
I found that the steps were not an easy road  to walk and although they felt  very difficult at times, however,  I kept my eye on the prize of a spiritual awakening and I  believe half way through working the steps, at about step seven or eight, I sensed a spiritual awakening within. It was an amazing feeling and one I would never want to surrender.  By that time I was willing to continue the steps, became more spiritually attuned to the world and develop  my part in it with healthy principles.  . I will always be grateful to Al-Anon for this tremendous gift

Step 12 questions

Have I experienced a spiritual awakening?

In what ways do I downplay my spiritual growth?

What have I received from Al-Anon that I would most like to share?

what does the 12 step say to me in Al-Anon service work?

what are the principles that are referred to in this step?

How can I apply them to my daily life?

Am I living the message of the program?

Allen my good example of Al-Anon recovery?

Thank you Betty!!!!

I am having so many spiritual awakenings as a direct result of these steps! I now wake up in the day ready to face the day and all depression is gone. The paralyzing fears are gone! I see where I was playing god and not letting God be God in my life. Yep, I slip back into old patterns but it states progress rather than perfection. I am learning to catch it easier and faster with the help of all my wonderful new friends in Alanon! And, I can LAUGH at myself about it when it happens!
The beauty of the program and working the steps, the spiritual awakening for me was uncovering all areas I only thought I was trusting God. All the junk that interfered with the A's progress or even lack thereof when I was in a squirrel cage of emotions. The emotions can sneak back in but I have a choice today and it's coming in this program, talking to my sponsor and groups, meetings and knowing it is all going to be ok as long as I don't fail to show up.

Step 12 questions

Have I experienced a spiritual awakening?
Oh yeah! Thank God for this program!

In what ways do I downplay my spiritual growth?
I do have issues with wondering if I have anything to give, but then my focus seems to gravitate to the negative in this area. This too shall pass as I keep pressing forward in alanon

What have I received from Al-Anon that I would most like to share?
Relief from depression, from obsessive thinking and actions, a deeper relationship God and trusting God. Relief from FEARS! New friends and HOPE!

what does the 12 step say to me in Al-Anon service work?
Give it away to keep it

what are the principles that are referred to in this step?
Working all the principles and applying them to my life daily in ALL my affairs

How can I apply them to my daily life?
Starting the day with my quiet time with God, the alanon literature, forums, meetings and if "life happens" coming right back to the beginning of the day, start over.

Am I living the message of the program?
Yes.

Allen my good example of Al-Anon recovery?
Yes, people in my life have noticed a drastic change for the good! The negative is gone, personally I don't care about my own anonymity as long as I protect others who may not feel the same way. I hope by living this, I draw many to Alanon. I don't ever want anyone to go to that dark place I was in before I came here! Thank you Alanon and everyone here!!!

Have I experienced a spiritual awakening?
If I look back I see that I have. What pushed me to begin the programme was the desperation I felt - the spiritual crisis. Now, my life is calm, and I can accept each day.

In what ways do I downplay my spiritual growth?
I am not sure that I do.. Maybe I forget how far I have come.

What have I received from Al-Anon that I would most like to share?
Perspective. Although i am still practicing it, and have not perfected it.

what does the 12 step say to me in Al-Anon service work?
Giving and service does not deplete me as I used to think it would. You only have what you give away.

what are the principles that are referred to in this step?
Service - to give it away

How can I apply them to my daily life?
To find moments where I can be of service to others, and carry the message - primarily through my actions, and reduced drama and negativity.

Am I living the message of the program?
I am getting better at it.

Allen my good example of Al-Anon recovery?
I can only see my own progress, and in comparison to 11 steps ago, I have made progress. I am in a different place to where I was a year ago. If someone was looking for an example, I would be able to share my journey as an example.

Thank you Betty.
