Step 3...

smile Step 3. Made a conscious decision to turn our will and our lives over to care of God as we understood him.

If you look on our message board you will find a thread on C2C reading for 30th of February- which is on the same topic. This thread contains some really good ESH! aww ...

The founders of AA and Alanon- right from the beginning seemed to practise a primitive form of Christianity. Borne partly from the Oxford Movement which Bill W. was a member of.

But quickly, as the movement got under way Hebrew believers came on board- and so the spiritual element was widened. And today it is widened to embrace any form of spiritual belief, or none.

Some years ago a remit went to conference to change the "him" in our steps. To make our higher power more neutral. This remit was lost.

Today there is most likely a minority of people in Alanon who see our higher power this way.

I know that some people have difficulty with the higher power components any 12 Step group. In NZ A professional told me that she would not refer clients to Alanon for support- because it was "religious".

So this may create a barrier.

So reading the ESH, as I have, on our message board- gives a good idea of how this step works in practise.

Any questions or comments here are most welcome.

In Miracle in Progress Alanon we all pitch in... ... we are a friendly helpful bunch!  smile ...

We had leap year yesterday, and now it is the first of the month!

Sad to say... the hotumanawa [heartbeat] of this steps forum, Betty K., also know as "Hotrod" passed away a day ago, after a short illness.

Alanon Step 3...

smile There is a balance, between giving and getting; getting and giving, in recovery.

I was always inspired by "Hotrod" who ran us through the Alanon steps here. At one time I followed her through the traditions, as well.

Steps 2 and 3 give us the opportunity to review our belief system. For a lot of people our beliefs are intensely personal. Maybe we go through this process, even before looking around for a sponsor?

Others of us express our faith openly inside of our group. [For me, over time... the group itself became my higher power.] And it matured from there, and still does so... aww ...

But all that is optional...

...the purpose of the steps is to find personal and emotional freedom. The ability to make better choices, live one day at a time, and the ability to think on our feet.

Here in NZ we are facing a nation-wide lockdown. Much closer to home.

I made this year a time to focus on Step 12, and Tradition 5.

Not to mean that I cannot go back over the steps. Like the keys on a piano they are very familiar. Sometimes I need to 'hit the right note' when I need help.

I need to reach out to others- in appropriate ways. Timing, tact and  ... ... ... still wondering about this last word!

A lovely place here- the MIP Alanon group. A great outreach. Solid ESH here.

There are checks and balances here- safety in numbers... but mostly mutual support.

The love and peace of the programme... aww ...

Betty K. is uppermost on my mind, at the moment.
