Alanon Step 4...

  4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.

Arohanui, aroha mai...  welcome here... smile ...

They say- that if you remember the '70's you weren't there.

Grew up in the 60's and 70's- in to a completely different world than my parents had know.

I was one of those people who dressed in rags, and wore bare feet in summer, clanking old steel cap boots in winter.

Alcohol was the only drug we knew- until about 1968.

At my first Alanon meeting I had grown up a little and was wearing gumboots with the tops turned down.

Looking back I could make a searching and fearless inventory of my generation and place myself inside of that.

As I found out- previous generations had not been angels either- but they managed to cover that up much better.

I was tough on myself- and was my own harshest critic. I had to learn to be kind and caring- to myself.

I was on a journey- where I was going to cease making the same mistakes, constantly.

I was beginning to make other mistakes. Having been nailed down emotionally I was beginning to actually learn stuff!

I had to be humble and begin to make baby steps... biggrin ...

But it has all been good. The whole wide world opened up to us- after World War Two.

Being in Alanon has been apart of that journey. Not a really way-out radical thing to do!

Just one of those things- one day at a time. smile ...
