((((((((((Janna)))))))))), welcome to Miracles In Progress. And thanks for sharing. My first Sponsor also gave me a similar assignment in my early recovery where, at the end of every hour, I should write what I would be grateful for, if at all I am, in that one hour. In the beginning I struggled too, as I could only see what is not there in my life, never what I have for which I can be grateful for, like I was alive, I had not lost any parts of my body due to my addiction or any other natural calamity, I had a shelter, I had decent enough clothes to wear, I had the care of the NA fellowship, the love of my sponsor, I was clean, I had meetings everyday where I can go and share my recovery with other members who care and understand, my hunger was taken care of, and so many other things like the oxygen to breath, the winds, the sea, the trees... the list goes on and on... and writing them down every hour, even if it was repetitive, made me acknowledge more and more how blessed I am actually, and how my Higher Power is in fact taking care of me, by being with me and carrying me thru another day clean, inspite of my sickness and my denial to see and feel these miracles in my daily life...

Anything that comes to my mind can be writing material. I don't have to be choosy there, or to judge whether I can write this or not, whether this is a right answer or a wrong one. The point is that I start writing, whatever comes to my mind at that moment, and believe me, as I allow myself to be in this process of writing, things will gradually start pouring out of my heart, on pen and paper. I would be amazed at times by what I wrote. Things I was otherwise not able to think or talk about. Many long-term dead ends within me were thus unlocked thru writing and my Sponsor's guidance.

Hope this helps, Janna. Also check out the NA message board here at Miracles In Progress. The link is http://www.activeboard.com/forum.spark?forumID=52289&p=1&a=45

There is lots of experience, strength and hope available there for addicts. Being part of this NA online group has been a very important part of my daily recovery from addiction for awhile now. Hope you find what I have found here too ~ support, warmth and compassion that every addict deserves...

Walk in the Light with your Higher Power,

Hugs, Love, Light ~ Tahir.
